"Naturally bursting with flavour, venison contains much higher levels of protein than beef, lamb, pork and chicken, but is lower in fat, cholesterol and calories. This lean red meat is also a great source of iron, which could help to combat deficiencies in this mineral, particularly prevalent in many women and growing children today. If you are not a big fan of oily fish and are looking for an alternative source of Omega Oils, then venison, which is particularly rich in these vital nutrients, may be the solution.
The health benefits of Omega Oils are well documented - important in maintaining a healthy brain, nervous system and heart. Omega 3 Oil can also act as a valuable aid to pregnancy and breast feeding, helping to ensure the healthy development of the baby and the well-being of the mother. Venison is also a valuable source of B-complex vitamins, including Vitamin B12 which, together with its rich iron content, make venison a good energy food, as iron and Vitamin B12 are both essential in the production of haemoglobin, which transports oxygen around the body. This oxygen is then used to generate the energy needed for all metabolic processes. Zinc and selenium, both important minerals in helping to boost immunity, are also to be found in venison. Selenium, which is all too often lacking in the modern diet, may help to protect against cancer, and as a powerful antioxidant, also helps to fight the signs of premature ageing. All these facts add up to one thing - venison is a pretty healthy red meat choice!
..........................try wild British venison then you can also be assured of a high-quality product, by buying from a reputable supplier. Adrian Spicer of L & C game, based in Buckland Newton, Dorset explained that he supplies wild sika deer meat from regular sources in the local area, ensuring that his customers can have every confidence in the high quality of his venison products.
.........................It is also possible to buy smoked and cured venison, such as the wonderful sweet-cured and cold-smoked meat offered by L&C Game, who use a unique recipe to treat the venison, which includes organic honey and white wine."

" Speaking of pigs - strictly land bound - the other day we had a wild boar bacon joint from L&C Game, and very good it was too. On Sunday we had a combined market with the French on Poole Quay. I had a natter to Adrian and Carolyn who run L&C, and they told me that they had very little left at the moment. Apparently he is only able to take about one a month because there is presently insufficient stock out in the woods for more - we are talking really wild "wild boar" here. Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day. I was sitting in a chair on the quayside with just a tee-shirt on, yes, and kecks too, but with winter not too far away my thoughts are already turning to venison. Wild boar is low on fat, but venison has almost none and if you are worried about your cholesterol this is the one for you."
